Finally...

A productive day in court! Today we had court for Nolan and Paige. Their dad came up to us while we were waiting and told us that both him and their mother are tired, and they know the kids are better off. He said their mom is having a harder time letting go, but he knows he has nothing to offer them and that they are doing really well with us. He said that what their mom really wants is to still be able to have contact with them after we adopt them, like once a month (!!). We had discussed it prior, and decided that it would not be in the kids best interest to see them on any kind of regular basis, but that I would send pics and other things as the kids were growing up. Shawn told their father flat out that it was confusing for Nolan, and that we didn't think it was good for him to see them, and that we are the ones left trying to explain to him who they are etc, and he's at an age where that explanation doesn't go too far. He seemed to understand, and said that their mother's drug use really brings him down, adn that he was planning on leaving her. He also said that he was going to go into court and relinquish his rights to us.
So we went into court, and their mother didn't go in. Her attorney said she was too upset to come in and that she would have liked to see us agree to let her see the kids more often, but it is what it is. Their dad released his rights, and they terminated their mothers services. Her rights will be terminated in January.
After we left court, their father walked next to us for a little bit, and then their mother came up behind him so he fell back to walk with her. Once we got outside into the parking lot, she starting screaming and cussing at him at the top of her lungs! It was like an episode of Jerry Springer! Thank goodness we didn't agreed to let the kids see that psycho!
Anyways, things are finally falling on to place for them too, and hopefully by this time next year, all of the paperwork will be done and they'll all be officially ours!

It sounds like things are falling into place and you are getting the family you both always wanted. I am so happy for you all.
